MEDA has been working in Pakistan since 2004 in the field of women’s economic development and currently implementing a number of projects all over the country.
We are looking for 2 Value Chain Officers for our USAID funded project, “USAID Pakistan Entrepreneurs”. Position holders will be based in Islamabad with frequent travel to project areas.
JOB SUMMARY:
* Value Chain Officer will be responsible for providing support to assigned Key Facilitating Partners (KFPs).
* He/she will also be responsible for creating linkages with the KFPs, project management, implementation of value chain development concepts, M & E, research and coordinating the efforts for capacity building of the assigned KFPs.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
1. Provide the link between MEDA and the assigned KFPs in all facets of the project’s delivery.
2. Project management of the assigned value chains in very close cooperation with the KFP. Implementation of value chain development best practices, monitoring & evaluation, research, and overall project support to the KFP.
3. Work closely with our lead partner in the capacity building of KFPs in value chain development (needs assessment, mentoring requirements, trouble shooting, etc)
4. Coordinate with appropriate MEDA personnel to build the capacity of the KFPs to follow MEDA’s financial management system and to fulfill reporting requirements.
5. In conjunction with the KFP, participate in identification of constraints due to inadequate financing. Investigate, assess, build links to credit for the women producers where appropriate; investigate and link financing for key value chain actors such as input suppliers, processors, packagers, wholesalers, exporters, etc.
6. In conjunction with the KFP, undertake research and source appropriate input suppliers to provide requisite inputs and/or technologies for the women producers; Initiate, facilitate and monitor the linkages with the identified input suppliers.
7. Identify, initiate and develop linkages with the identified value chain actors, e.g., transport, storage, processing, packaging, traders, wholesalers, retailers, exporters, etc.
8. Undertake a program of planned visits on a regular cycle to key value chain partners such as input and output market actors, to develop and monitor relationships to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes.
9. Participate in the development of the training activities program, as required.
10. Communicate regularly with MEDA Country Office, Islamabad as determined by supervisor.
11. Any other responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
* Minimum qualification, MBA or MPA with specialization in marketing
* 5 – 7 years of experience in value chain management specifically in areas of agriculture, horticulture, herbs, spices and honey;
* Proven experience in areas of project management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation & research, value chain concepts, marketing and business oriented approach for economic development
* Excellent report writing skills
* Strong coordination, networking and relationship building skills
* Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
* Organized, punctual and detailed oriented
* Fluent in written and spoken English, Urdu and Pashto. Knowledge of other languages of NWFP will be an asset.
* Ability to work in team setting, taking initiatives and performing multiple tasks
* Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and Power point).
* Able to travel as position involves traveling to project sites for implementation of the project.
