Job Description
Job Summary:
-The primary role of the Occupational Therapist includes patient assessment, the planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment, and planning of appropriate discharge.
-The Occupational Therapist provides education to promote, maintain or restore the patient’s highest level of functional independence, and to maximize the quality of life of the patient.
-The Occupational Therapist’s approach is patient/family centered and in co-ordination with the health care team. Occupational Therapy is practiced in accordance with the regulations established by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
-Caseloads may include: neurological diagnosis (including CVA, Guillian-Barré and MS), orthopedic diagnosis (including total hip replacements, total knee replacements, and fractured hip repairs), acquired brain injury, motor vehicle accidents , cognitive impairments , and patients with general deconditioning or decline in function precipitated by a medical condition.
-Ability to function co-operatively as part of an interprofessional treatment team; possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; sound clinical judgement, flexibility and initiative.
-Ability to communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and other professionals is essential.
-Superior organizational and time management skills are essential to management of the caseload.
-Ability to learn about, from, and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care.
-Demonstrate the ability to appreciate the importance of, and be open to, new concepts and trends in the academic and clinical areas of health care knowledge.
Job Qualifications:
-Entry level Degree in Occupational Therapy.
-Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
-Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, and the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy.
