Director of Technology – Calgary, Canada. Relocation provided. Must have Product Development experience.
The Director of Technology will lead the research, development and product commercialization initiatives for the portables LOB. The job includes responsibility for the leadership, actions and team development of a 25+ member technology team based in Calgary, along with a $5 million annual budget. The emphasis of the job is on development and deployment of new products through strong collaboration with HA Strategic Marketing.
Key responsibilities include:
• Build organizational and talent development capability including succession plans.
• Build and lead high performance teams by effectively recruiting, motivating and developing individuals in a strong team environment.
• Lead the portfolio management process for all technology projects including prioritizing multiple, simultaneous product development programs.
• Manage the new product development process using Stage Gate discipline and Six Sigma tools to ensure projects are being managed to meet customer specifications and schedule within budgets.
• Support technology initiatives across key strategic growth platforms and collaborative programs
• Establish technical leadership by building synergies and strong relationships throughout the organization, across the business and through external relationships and channel partners and customers.
• Continue to drive growth and innovation within a culture of technology, research, development and engineering functions by facilitating an environment of teamwork and desire to be the best.
• Develop and maintain the HAAM Portables technology roadmaps and IP strategies to most effectively meet business and customer needs, and position the business for sustainable competitiveness.
• Drive financial performance by meeting expense and capital budgets as well as developing budgets to fund growth programs supporting business goals.
Basic Qualifications:
• Masters degree
• 15 years work experience in gas detection, hand held mobile devices or related industries.
• 5 years of high-level management experience with a demonstrated ability getting products from concept through development, production and into the market in a timely manner
• 5 years experience leading an in-house development organization, managing people, scheduling, budget commitments and customer need
• 5 years experience with Six Sigma or other stage gate type processes
Preferred Qualifications:
• A sound background in one or more of the following is required: product development or strategic marketing in gas detection or a related industry.
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt qualification
• Comfortable in manufacturing facilities; understands process technologies.
• Strong breadth of technical skills
• Customer and industry credibility
• Strong international orientation and comfort level dealing with diverse cultures and business climates.
