The Role
The Director, Information Technology is accountable and responsible for the overall planning and direction of the IT Department, developing and implementing IT strategies and plans in support of the Emterra Group of companies. The role includes strategic partnering with the Business in all locations we operate in, helping achieve business goals, building organizational capability and efficiency through the use of information technology, and enabling the Business to leverage the use of technology investments.
The Person
We are looking for a candidate who views IT as a strategic partner to the Business, wants to be a critical component of our organization’s success and sees IT as an enabler to the Business. This is a key senior management role in a rapidly evolving organization with a very real opportunity to have a significant impact. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the Company. This person will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely, cooperatively, and collaboratively with the Business to prioritize projects and tasks and allocate resources consistent with the Company’s strategy and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Further develop, implement, and manage corporate wide IT strategy, policy, and procedures in support of the Company’s mission and core objectives.
Provide leadership, direction and management to IT staff with an attitude of quality first.
Be an IT Leader that is Customer focused and understands the Business.
Build an IT organizational structure that is in the best interests of the Business.
Develop, implement, and manage IT Governance.
Develop and manage an approved annual IT operating and capital budget.
Determine current and future IT requirements by partnering with Business stakeholders at all levels to understand processes and how improvements might be made.
Work closely with Business stakeholders to prioritize projects against Business requirements and objectives.
Direct the integration of various IT operations, computer hardware, operating systems, communications, software applications and related data.
Understand and implement requirements that support systems developments, maintenance and operations.
Implement sound security practices for IT systems at the same time supporting Business needs, with an understanding that security cannot be an impediment to doing business.
Identify and establish relationships with external vendors to provide IT related services to the Business.
Manage ongoing vendor relationships and ensure timely and accurate communication and resolution of issues.
Setup and maintain documentation and standards, following industry standard best practices.
Partner with Business stakeholders to develop business cases, RFI’s, and RFPs.
Develop and manage an IT staff training plan.
Document and implement IT industry standard processes.
Develop, measure, and report on service level agreements with internal clients, vendors and suppliers.
Oversee, plan and manage the Company’s telephony.
Implement and manage an IT helpdesk in support of IT services.
kills and Experience required
A degree or diploma in Information Technology or related program, with a minimum of 5 years IT management experience, including team and project management.
Ability to explain IT concepts to non-IT individuals and sees Business buy-in as critical to IT success.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate high level business requirements into detailed documentation for systems development.
A proven track record of defining and building an IT department.
Someone who enjoys being a hands-on leader with the ability to motivate employees to success.
Budgetary planning and management experience.
Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
Experience with managing and implementing multiple IT disciplines; infrastructure, applications, architecture, security etc.
Demonstrated experience with selecting and managing outsourced services.
Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments to successful implementation.
Understands and can implement project management disciplines.
Experience and a broad understanding of Windows based operating systems, active directory and SQL Server.
Experience in establishing IT Governance and compliance is an asset.
Experience in a medium size manufacturing company or larger multi-location company is an asset.
